This site, winberg.ie, is run by Carl Winberg in Ireland. If you have a question about your data, or want to use any of the rights below, email privacy@winberg.ie.
The tools
The tools at winberg.ie/tools work entirely in your browser. A file you open in one is read on your own computer and is never uploaded: not to this site and not to anyone else. Saved presets and settings stay in your browser’s own storage, and a “copy link” link carries settings, never your files.
Analytics
To see which pages are read, this site uses Umami, run on my own server (Hetzner, in Germany). Umami:
- sets no cookies and doesn’t track you across sites;
- does not store your IP address;
- records the page, the site that linked to it, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, and the country, region and city your IP address points to.
It isn’t built to identify you, and I don’t try to. Visits are kept for two years, then deleted. Because it stores nothing on your device, it runs without asking for consent. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in knowing what’s useful on the site.
Server logs
Like any web server, mine logs each request: your IP address, the page, the time and your browser. Those logs are kept for 14 days to keep the site running and secure (for example, to block attacks), and then deleted.
Embedded videos and posts
Some pages show work hosted elsewhere. Loading those pages contacts the service, which sees your IP address:
- YouTube: embedded with YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which sets no cookies until you play a video. When you press play, Google’s own privacy policy applies.
- Vimeo: embedded with “do not track”, so Vimeo doesn’t track your session.
- Bluesky: one embedded post loads Bluesky’s embed script.
If you email me, I keep your message and address to reply, for as long as the conversation needs. Mail is handled by Migadu, a Swiss email provider.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what personal data I hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. Write to privacy@winberg.ie. You can also complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
