Video podcast checker
One export, checked for Spotify and YouTube.
Drop the video episode you’re about to publish. It’s checked against Spotify’s video specs and YouTube’s recommended upload settings at once, so you can see where the two disagree. Only the headers are read, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop your video episode
Only the headers and sample tables are read, so a long 4K episode takes seconds. Nothing is uploaded.
Where Spotify is stricter
YouTube re-encodes almost anything you upload. Spotify’s video specs have a few hard lines: no interlacing, no edit lists, audio and video the same length, the first frame within 50 ms of the start, and a keyframe at least every 60 seconds (it recommends one a second). Its frame rate list is 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60, so a 29.97 export isn’t on it, though Spotify doesn’t say what happens to one.
Those timing checks need more than a file’s headers, so the tool reads the MP4’s sample tables itself: every keyframe, the edit lists and each track’s length. Its readings are checked against ffprobe.
Apple Podcasts
Apple takes video podcasts as HLS streams that your host delivers through the Podcasts Connect API, not as a file you upload, so there’s nothing here to check against it.
