Mid-roll ad break finder
Breaks where the talking stops, not mid-sentence.
YouTube says ad breaks work best at natural moments, like a pause, and that breaks mid-sentence or mid-action are less likely to show an ad at all. Drop in your video and this listens for the pauses, then picks the best one near each point you want a break, preferring your chapter starts. The video never leaves your browser.
YouTube doesn’t set how often; fewer breaks annoy viewers less. Chapters help: a break where the subject changes is the most natural of all.
What YouTube says
- Mid-roll ads are for monetised videos of 8 minutes or longer.
- Breaks at natural points, a pause in the audio or a change of scene, work best; mid-sentence or mid-action ones are less likely to show an ad.
- No break is guaranteed to show an ad, and YouTube Studio marks the ones it thinks unlikely in red.
It doesn’t say how many breaks to have or how far apart; that’s your call.
How the pauses are found
It measures how loud your video is every tenth of a second and looks for moments that drop well below the speech around them for at least four tenths of a second. That works with a music bed under your voice, as long as the music sits well below it; when the music is nearly as loud as the voice, the gaps never go quiet and it says so. It listens only: scene changes in the picture aren’t detected, which is what your chapters are for.
How a break is picked
Near each point you asked for, a pause at a chapter start comes first. Otherwise longer pauses are cleaner cuts, but a pause loses a second of credit for every fifth of your spacing it is away from the point, so the breaks keep the rhythm you chose: at 5-minute spacing a 2-second pause 10 seconds off beats a short one right on the mark, and a short pause 5 seconds off beats a long one 2 minutes early.
